The jury's review
Jury review of MapToNap
An architectural site analysis tool presented through a playful, retro-computing operating system and scrollytelling 3D narrative.
MapToNap pitches an automated site analysis and 3D generator directly to time-pressured architecture students and practitioners. Its presentation eschews conventional SaaS monotony in favour of a characterful retro OS desktop motif layered with Three.js rendering and numbered narrative chapters. Technically, the page is meticulously structured: every link and button carries discernible text, landmarks are logically arranged, and reduced-motion queries are handled thoughtfully. While performance demands are notable given the sheer weight of markup and WebGL assets, the interface marries clear utilitarian demonstration with an engaging, thematic personality.
What the jury loved
- Thorough accessibility engineering with flawless link, button, and image alt labeling.
- Cohesive and witty product metaphor (from map to nap) executed through an OS-inspired interface.
- Graceful fallback messaging when WebGL rendering is unavailable.
- Clear communication of architectural file export formats and practical utility.
