The jury's review
Jury review of Uberblok
An interactive museum dedicated to OpenZFS internals, pairing scholarly editorial typography with illustrated code artefacts and architectural diagrams.
Uberblok brings an unusual, deeply considered curatorial vision to systems programming. Treating OpenZFS not merely as software but as a cultural artefact, the site adopts the visual language of a museum catalogue: numbered figure plates, magnifying glasses over source listings, and disciplined academic typography. The juxtaposition of a stark dark palette with warm terracotta accents and precise serif headings gives complex kernel data structures an unexpected gravitas. Technically grounded with solid semantic HTML landmarks and multi-language support, it elevates technical documentation into genuine digital scholarship.
What the jury loved
- Exceptional curatorial concept framing kernel source code as physical museum artefacts
- Impeccable typographic hierarchy balancing literary serifs with dense monospace code references
- Restrained, elegant colour palette that lends weight and atmosphere to technical documentation
- Clean technical foundations with zero missing alt tags and proper semantic landmark structure
