The jury's review
Jury review of 1in8b Guide
A structured independent player guide with an earthy, field-guide aesthetic that pairs pastoral illustration with clear documentation cards.
1in8b Guide approaches the player companion genre with quiet, editorial dignity. Rather than adopting typical gamer wikis or abrasive gaming aesthetics, it draws upon botanical field guides and vintage travel manuals. The rich forest-green hero card, warm beige accents, and landscape illustration establish a serene, thoughtful tone that matches its philosophical subject matter. The visual hierarchy is crisp, supported by robust semantic landmarks and spotless link labelling in the technical markup. While the page relies heavily on conventional card layouts and contains a slightly redundant second search bar within the hero block, it remains an uncommonly polished, pleasant reference site.
What the jury loved
- Distinctive, calming art direction that elevates standard game documentation into an editorial field guide.
- Strong semantic HTML structure with fully labelled inputs, links, and appropriate landmark regions.
- Warm and legible typographic hierarchy that pairs serif headers with clean sans-serif body copy.
